Ethiopia: Report on Interagency Emergency Response Needs Assessment in Mekelle City 03 JAN 2021[EN]

Subject/Objective: 
General objective: the general objectives of the interagency joint assessment is for effective resource mobilization and ensure coordinated and fair distribution of limited emergency response resources to the needy population in Mekelle city.
Methodology: 
Both quantitative and qualitative data has been gathered from secondary and primary sources using different methods including individuals’ interview, KII, FGD and physical observations. Teams of experts from HINGOs forum members and relevant governmental sectors (Early warning, BOLSA and BoWR) has been formed to gather the required information/data.
Key findings: 
Mekelle city, the capital of Tigray regional state is home to more than 500,000 people before the war. Although the population in Mekelle is under different wealth categories, the entire population have been exposed to various socio-economic problems related to the sudden occurrence of the war and blockage of bank services, market and shops, shortage of food and non-food supplies, power, water, health services and communication.
